Lexicon Of Terms
What is shown below is the Lexion of Terms, or in some cases the "noob handbook." It recalls back to all of the short cuts that we roleplayers enjoy using all the time. It's been noted that there are far many more that we can touch base with but the basics right now are the only things that are at hand to our little nooblette chicka'dees. A wise suggestion for any noob that is new to roleplay would be to consider printing this out so that when met with a person insulting your caliber by randomly tossing out words that you don't know. You can simply look to your side, and reply with a very witty remark that will show that you are not as new to the game as they may believe. This can also help when you're trying to explain to a apprentice who has lacked the total and complete common sense to read the Lexion of Terms. I hope that they help and guide the way to the future of our roleplaying society.
AFK: Away from keyboard...used when someone has to step away, in order to attend to his or her real life matters.
AIM-AOL : An instant messaging service provided by AOL.com.
Autohit/Auto/Autoed : Meaning a forced attack and connect within one line of text. This is normally seen in T-2 but can also be seen in T-1 as well.
Example : RandomNooblette: rushes into the other randomnooblette, punching them into the face and breaking their nose.
More details on fighting are at the links at left under "Combat Related."
BRB: Be right back...similar to afk, but now states it will be only a few moments or so. Sometimes if people say BrB, it can also mean something much different. It's known that a few people will say brb and will take a few hours, it's the game that we play with out short cut terms.
/me -Is the way to display actions within the chat rooms that we have. The way that you do, /me, is starting with pressing the same key the ? is on without hitting Shift, then typing me and adding a space.
Here's an example of what it looks like, with out the /me, "TheRandomNoob says, leans back, shoving his hands into his pockets and smiling absently."
As you can see above, if you read this outloud, it doesn't make sense. Go on, try it. Now, if I put /me into the mix and start it off with that, it will turn into a action majickly and be readable as one. As shown below.
TheRandomNoob leans back, shoving his hands into his pockets and smiling absently.
Try that. Think of RolePlaying as if you were writing a book, using punctuation and grammar as you would if you were an author. An author presenting their work to the others in the room as you type it, and giving others the opportunity to add their own works in with yours. Pretty cool concept isn't it? Also, remember that when you use /Me, it automatically makes your name is part of the sentence.
CC - Crossing Character : When RolePlaying, many people have more than one character that they RolePlay ( At different times, of course. ) Let's make this simple by giving a simple example. Let's pretend that John Doe has two characters; A powerful Kevin Spencer, and a not so powerful Bobby Joe. One day, John Doe is RolePlaying Bobby Joe, when another man, IC as well, tells Bobby Joe that he wants to slay Kevin Spencer (John Doe's other character.) John Doe leaves the room and logs Bobby Joe off of chat, bringing Kevin Spencer in. Kevin Spencer makes a small army of about four people that go into the room that they were previously in, and kill the man who threatened him. This is taking IC knowledge of another character, and crossing it over to another one of your characters.
D&D - AD&D : Dungeons and Dragons, or Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. A popular set of books and games created by Wizards of the Coast. Some Edonites base their characters from these games. More info can be found at the Link at left under "Resources" or Here.
Auroraians : A definition for the RolePlayers that favor Aurora and play by her guidelines regularly. Those who start out roleplaying here can also consider themselves Aurorarian; making it their home. Examples of this would be other servers and the names that they have sprung up for their citizens and users, suchs as Jacarian, Hubian, Shardian, Wiridian, etc.
gtg/g2g - Got to go : Meaning the person has to leave chat at the moment, and it normally has a sense of haste overwhelming behind it.
Fillers : A term used by combat aficionado's that basically means, using "Fill in" words to achieve the minimum word requirements for the attacks/connects/dodges within a T2 match. The more experienced battlers within the Aurora Realm frown upon fillers. Examine both examples below for yourself, and judge which one looks more fluent and thought out. Yes, T2 is about quick thinking, but it should not be sloppy. The words used as filler are underlined in the first example, there are many more word fills people use out there, this is just a brief example of a few.
Example of an attack with Fillers:
RandomNoob:runs over to babyw all fast like.
RandomNoob:rips a punch for her jaw now.
RandomNoob:punches her jaw all quick like watching her bleed now.
Example of a decent attack with no word fills:
RandomNoob:strides to babyw, with malice in his gaze.
RandomNoob:swings his fist towards the woman's jaw.
RandomNoob:cracks his knuckles against babyw's face, sending her reeling back.
More details on T2 may be viewed HERE , or check the links at left under "Combat Related" - Speed Based.
IC - In Character : While Role Playing your character, you are In Character. This is when you do -not- speak of anything going on in the real life spectrum. This is your 'time out', if you will, from real life. This is when your imagination lights up, and your character comes to life. This, my friend, is what RolePlay is for. It is when your character begins to evolve, begins to change, perhaps, and ideally, even gain a mind of it's own...Where you relate with other IC beings, and more importantly, interact.
ICQ- "Q" : An instant messaging service provided by mirabilis.com.
Iggy-Ignore : This means using a basic feature on the chat, called ignore user. Placing someone on ignore is done for many different reasons, usually the person doing the iggy'ing has a set reason for doing it. Sometimes players do not even state they've used the ignore feature on a user and just do it quietly. If someone's not responding to you, you may have been ignored by him or her for one reason or another. If that's the case, don't press the issue, just move on to converse and RP with someone else. By all means do -not- start a fight over it. Such bickering can become a great disruption to the RP environment within the room.
Examples :RandomNoob:iggy's turtlebrain for being OOC. or RandomNoob:Ignore's babyw for spamming.
IRL - In Real Life : It's a simple way to speak of things which transpired in real life. Shortened.
Keeper : A Keeper is someone who's been chosen from a wide range of people present within Aurora Realm's boundaries to represent the realm as a whole. They are responsible for not only keeping up a decent reputation, but also for helping people with specifics about the realm if they are asked. Another job of the keepers is to work and constantly keep the website up to par. Being a Keeper carries a wide range of responsibilities, which include but are not limited to: approving and registering of characters, approving and posting deaths, constant upgrades upon the website, and providing Aurora Realm related assistance where possible and when needed.
LOL : Laugh out Loud, used when something is found incredibly funny to you.
LMAO : the upgrade from LOL, LMAO stands for Laughing my ass off. There are many variations of this, but hey, it's all laughter, so it's good.
LP - Line Preparation (or "Prep") : This symbolizes the extra RP lines (12 words or more) needed for special character abilities such as magic's, or using an enchanted weapon. Usually 2-3 lines are used for moderate powers; this can increase for very powerful abilities.
Example :
RandomNoob:taps into the arcane knowledge of fire magic's held within her soul.
RandomNoob:glaring fiercely towards RevahTheAdvocate, a minute ball of fire appears in her palm, ready for throwing.
MSN-Messenger : An instant messaging service provided by MSN.com.
Newbie & Noob : a Term, used in a derogatory sense to someone new to the RolePlaying experience online. Some use this term for someone that's indeed not new, but refuses to abide by simple guidelines set.
NM- n/m : Abbreviation for NeverMind
NP- n/p : Abbreviation for No Problem
OOC- Out of Character : When someone is talking about there Real Lives outside of the RolePlaying environment, that's considered OOC. This is where you speak of things in the real life spectrum. You don't want to be in a RolePlaying room while being OOC. While OOC, you do not exist to anyone IC, and vice versa. Don't try to contact them, unless using some other form of communication besides the main chat screen. (I.e. MSN, ICQ.), or move it to another room.
PC- Power character : PC stands for power character, and there are a wide range of definitions for this. Overall a PC is a character that's overly powerful and usually cannot be touched unless done so by another PC. These types of characters restrict RolePlay greatly and diminish everyone's enjoyment of the game.
RP - RolePlay : The reason we're all here. The act of playing out the life/unlife of one's character within Aurora Realm. Think of acting in a play. If you're a nice guy in the real world, your character can be totally different. Someone once said that a lot of yourself goes into your character. This can be true for some characters, but it shouldn't be for all. Just like you can sometimes relate to some of the roles you play while being an actor, and sometimes they are not you at all.
Scrolling - Spamming : The act of posting lines of merely one or 2 words within a chat room. A terrible disruption to the RolePlayers within that room and extremely frowned upon.
Example :
RandomNoob says What
RandomNoob says Are
RandomNoob says You
RandomNoob says People
RandomNoob says Looking
RandomNoob says At
RandomNoob says !!!!!
T2 : Speed based combat. This is a fairly simple fighting style at it's core, but so many variations have been made that T2 continues to be the most mis-understood fighting style. It is a speed-based combat system, where even the most powerful villain may be able to fall at the hands of a lvl 1 healer, if the Healers' -Out Of Character Player- is quicker and smarter than the villains'. It is a favorite among a number of RolePlayers for it's constant base of action and the need to keep on your toes. Strategy can be implemented into T2, but is mostly left for more tactical fighting styles. Everything that you can do in any fighting style you can do in this one, only faster. More details on T2 may be viewed at left under "Combat Related."
T1 : A Turn based combat system based on intelligence and wits instead of typing speed. Very thorough and graphic with description (Usually) on both players sides. It's where the characters abilities, or lack there-of, can really shine through. More details on T1/Turn Based may be viewed at left under "Combat Related."
T3 : Free Style, normaly for newer role players that lack the ability to pick up their pace in battle or the ability to describe an attack.
TY : Short for Thank You
WB- w/b : Short for Welcome back.
