Novice Guide

Welcome to the world of RolePlay. This is a set of guidelines to guide you through your first series of months within Aurora Realm!

First of all, RolePlay is not for the meek. If you are utterly and completely offended and repelled by reading about death, sexual innuendos, or vulgar language, then you won't survive in RolePlay. In other words, Role Play is like life : If you can't handle it, stay inside.

Second of all, RolePlay is not for the weak-hearted. People's lives have been made and broken from this 'game'. What's that, you say? "I'm only here to play a game, I don't care about anything but playing my character with relations to other characters." Well..We'll see, won't we?

To be able to survive in both the Aurora Realm, chat text RP and your every day life, you must have a nice grip of reality and fiction. The people RolePlaying are not what their characters are. We don't believe we're vampires, or the undead. You must have your priorities straight. If you've school the next day, and you're in the middle of your RP, and it's 1:00a.m., you have to have the sense to turn off the PC, and head to bed. RolePlay, in one aspect, is a way to escape from the 'Real' world..But how many hours a day do you have to be RolePlaying before -that- becomes -your- reality? Once it begins to start interfering with your Real life...

RolePlay attracts every different type of being there is. We're all unique in here. Yet, if you're here long enough, you'll notice something very similar woven deep within us. Far be it for me to ruin the surprise....

We're going to discuss the general 'lingo' of the RolePlaying community. These words, acronyms, palyndromes, and whichever else category they fit into help RolePlayers better be understood by eachother, and less by the outside community.

RP - Role Play. = The act of playing out the life/unlife of one's character. Think of acting in a play. If you're a nice guy in the real world, your character can be totally different. Someone once said that a lot of yourself goes into your character. This can be true for some characters, but it shouldn't be for all. Just like you can sometimes relate to some of the roles you play while being an actor, and sometimes they are not you at all.

IC - In Character = While Role Playing your character, you are In Character. This is when you do -not- speak of anything going on in the real life spectrum. This is your 'time out', if you will, from real life. This is when your imagination lights up, and your character comes to life. This, my friend, is what RolePlay is for. It is when your character begins to evolve, begins to change, perhaps, and ideally, even gain a mind of it's own...Where you relate with other IC beings, and more importantly, interact.

OOC - Out Of Character = This is sometimes called "The reason RolePlay has fallen to where it is." This is where you speak of things in the real life spectrum. You don't want to be in a RolePlaying room while being OOC. While OOC, you do not exist to anyone IC, and vice versa. Don't try to contact them, unless using some other form of communication besides the main chat screen. (i.e. MSN Messages www.msn.com, ICQ. www.icq.com ), or move it to another room.

IRL - In Real Life = It's a simple way to speak of things which transpired in real life. Shortened.

/Me = /Me Makes words into actions for Role Playing.

Nooblette says, leans back, shoving his hands into his pockets and smiling absently. As you can see, if you read this outloud, it doesn't make sense. Go on, try it.

Now, if I put /me in front of the word leans, this will happen. "Nooblette leans back, shoving his hands into his pockets and smiling absently."

Try that. More sensible. It's a kind of writing. The same rules you apply to writing a good book, are the same type of principals you use to govern your typing skills. Remember to use punctuations like you would in a book. Also, remember that when you use /me your name is part of the sentence.

CC - Crossing Characte r= When RolePlaying, many people have more than one character that they RolePlay (At different times, of course.) Let's make this simple by giving a simple example. Let's pretend that Hubert Ozborne has two characters ; A powerful Necromancer, and a not so powerful Sprite. One day, Hubert Ozborne is RolePlaying as his sprite, when another man, IC as well, tells Hubert Ozborne that he wants to slay his necromancer (Hubert Ozborne's other character.) Hubert Ozborne leaves the room and logs his sprite off of chat, bringing his necromancer in. The necromancer makes a small army of about four people that go into the room that they were previously in, and kill the man who threatened him. This is taking IC knowledge of another character, and crossing it over to another one of your characters.

Our Lexicon carries a lot more terms for use by any player. Give it a read if you haven't already.

RolePlaying has few Set-In-Stone rules, but they exist.

1. Never bring OOC information IC. This is assuming that your character has knowledge that he/she/it/ver never learned while being IC. It won't be tolerated.

2. Never bring IC information OOC.

3. When you first enter a room, mould your entrance around the surroundings, the time of day/night, the temperature, your characters mood, etc. It'd be more creative than having a pre-made RolePlay entrance stuffed into your Word Pad.

4. Use common sense more often than not, because your character see's things as they appear, not as they always actually are. If the apple seems red in the light but is really green, the character still see's it as red.

5. When you enter a room, your character has not officially 'entered' until you write out an entrance line. On the other side of things, if you're scared of somebody and they're attacking you , and you flee the room without typing out an exit line or two, your character is still legally there, totally vulnerable.

Try to enter into plots during your time in Aurora Realm. Remember, there's no appointed "GM"'s, persay, so you're going to have to go out looking for an adventure. Sometimes, though, just sometimes... it comes to you.
